Director of Kerman Cultural Heritage Preservation and Restoration Department said that the historical Bam Citadel, Ganjalikhan Complex in Kerman, Meymand Complex in Babak, and Shah Ne’matollah Vali Mausoleum in Mahan are represented in the past year, of which the citadel has been seriously regarded by UNESCO.
Javad Nazarieh added that a total of 2500 historical works are in the provinces of which 52 are under restoration process.
To the north east of the Bam city, in the skirts of a gigantic rock is the foundations of the fortified castle, reputedly known as the Bam Citadel. The citadel is actually the old city of Bam.
The city is comprised of four sections and 38 watch towers. In the southern side of this structure there are four ramparts and to the north-eastern section there is also another colossal rampart.
The citadel has been constructed of sun baked bricks, argyle and straw, but in some parts stone, brick and the barks of date palms have been utilized. It is the largest edifice made of mud bricks in the world dating back to pre-Islamic era, manifesting the style of Iran’s urban planning in ancient times.
The said citadel comprises of the entrance gate-way, a public sector, a military base and the central section or seat of power.
